PAT testing: Electricity at the workplace
In addition to general health and safety legislation, electrical safety in
the workplace is covered by the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989. The
regulations require that employers take steps to limit the risk of injury
from electricity to people working on or near to electrical systems. This
includes both electrical installations and electrical equipment.
PAT testing: Electrical appliances
The Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations
1994 set out minimum safety requirements for all new and second-hand
electrical equipment, including devices, appliances and apparatus, supplied
in Gerrards Cross and throughout the UK.
Any electrical equipment that is supplied for the first time will be
supplied as new equipment - subsequently it will be supplied, e.g. hired out
as second hand equipment. In both cases the regulations will apply. The
regulations apply to most electrical equipment - consumer, commercial and
